Welcome
to the PBA of Georgia website. This website was established for your
benefit. We hope it will allow you to keep up with current events and
current trends in law enforcement in Georgia. We hope you will become
familiar with the information contained in these pages and that you will
introduce others in law enforcement to the website. The PBA of Georgia
is an association of professional law enforcement officers from across
the state of Georgia. Our goal is to serve the law enforcement community
through our membership.
The PBA of Georgia has a long
history and commitment of serving our approximately 5000 members in a
variety of ways, which is not limited to legal and disciplinary
representation. The PBA of Georgia has a loud and effective voice with
our legislators, made possible by our political action committee (PAC)
in each chapter. This allows the door to open for legislation for
improved working conditions and benefits. As a PBA of Georgia member,
acting as a group will allow a front line officer, as well as a superior
officer the same voice in safety as well as working conditions.
As the Georgia President, there are
two goals that I would like to address in this letter. First, I would
like to see an expansion of the employment contract in our state. As you
know, many departments now have a new officer sign an employment
contract detailing how long he or she will work for that department to
erase the cost of the department to train that officer. If the officer
doesn’t comply with that time limit, then he or she must repay all or
part of the department’s cost involved in that initial training. I
believe that any employment contract should include guarantees of a fair
working wage, annual pay increases, cost of living adjustments,
retirement, health care, and other benefits too. My second goal is to
have agencies give their PBA members the opportunity for payroll
deduction of their monthly dues. These things will probably require
legislative action to ensure statewide application. That’s why it is so
important to be involved with our legislators and support your PAC and
it’s chair.
In closing I ask that every PBA
member in the Georgia Division bring in one new member, and they pass
the same on, in a short time the PBA of Georgia will be the most
influential voice in the state.
God Bless,
Joe Naia
Georgia Division President
